Written by S. Beaumont and filed under Entertainment
Just in case you haven’t heard, the sequel to Raleigh Wide Open, creatively named Raleigh Wide Open 2, is this Saturday from 11 am to 11 pm on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh.
The agenda is said to include: 3 stages of live entertainment, wine and beer tastings, a parade, kids zone, fireworks and more. Attendance is reportedly expected to approach 70,000.

Is it just me or was this Raleigh Wide Open II a bit of a disappointment… especially the parade. C’mon now, a parade without a single band, the only exception being the Yancy’s Float. You could practically hear a whisper amongst the crowd it was so silent.
That’s probably due to the fact that there was nothing new opening this year (other than the statue of Sir Walt). Next year by this time they’re supposed to have finsihed with the South End of Fayetteville Street which will include the new city plaza …
The city plaza plans look cool and I think it really will be a party when they get that done. It’s supposed to bascially be a street that easily transforms into a concert stage complete with on site vendors, sound/lighting, projection screens, etc.
If all this gets done in time, Raleigh Wide Open III will be much better.
I wonder what they’ll do when they run out of Fayetteville Street to open? Are we going to celebrate the street opening every year from now on?
