Raleigh Weather

It really is sad to see what has happened (actually what has not happened) to Hillsborough Street. I’m talking mainly about the trash and the traffic. There are three main entities involved in the Hillsborough St. problem/solution, the City, the University and the local businesses. One problem is that the City has done very little over the past few decades to prepare for the growth of the University. Western Blvd. and Wade Ave. are the only other east west roadways capable of handling lots of traffic. With Western and Wade already crammed with cars, there is not a viable option for people trekking downtown besides Hillsborough St.
I am a huge fan of the roundabout idea because they save energy and will slow down traffic. Hopefully, roundabouts will make Hillsborough St. a more pedestrian friendly area. I am concerned with Hillsborough St. being reduced to one lane in each direction. How will the growing number of people living and working downtown get there? The University found a solution to Hillsborough St. years ago and named it Centennial Campus. Unfortunately, the business owners are stuck in the middle with The City spending tons of money on Glennwood and Fayetteville St. (not that there is anything wrong with that). The City should not only revitalize the streets but buy up property and build a parking deck to encourage local business. The area of bombed out houses behind Mitch’s?
