Rhett and Link
Filed Under Local Sites, Entertainment | Leave a Comment
Have you been to RhettandLink.com? If not, you’re in a group quickly becoming the minority among web surfers who are into original, humorous web-based content.
If you decide to pay them a visit, you’re in for a treat. These guys put out some very high quality viral videos, jingles and short films–all enabled and distributed by the glorious world wide web. I won’t go into more detail about their background. You’re better off just reading it for yourself, because they’re equally as good writers as they are performers.
So what’s the link to Raleigh here and why am I posting this on the Raleigh Free Press? Well, besides being NC natives, both Link and Rhett are NC State grads with engineering degrees that decided that a desk job just wasn’t for them.
Give them a visit and help to support some local boys made good. Here’s one of my favorites, Crashing the 2007 Grammy’s.

Free Wine Tastings at Amra’s
Filed Under Food and Beverage, Entertainment | 4 Comments
Beginning tomorrow, Amra’s (map) will be hosting a series of free wine tastings on Tuesday nights. The full schedule is below.
- February 5 - Winemaker from Puerto Viejo Wines
- February 12 - Wine Trading Company
- March 11 - Ararat Wines
- April 8 - Epicur Wines
- May 13 - Mutual Wines
- June 10 - Wine Trading Company
- July 8 - Dionysus Wines
- August 12 - Epicur Wines
- September 9 - Mutual Wines
- October 14 - Turner Wine Imports
- November 11 - Turner Wine Imports
- December 9 - Epicur Wines
If you’ve never been to Amra’s, I’d recommend giving it a shot. As a cigar and jazz club, it has a really nice feel to it and can be a nice alternative to the traditional pub. My only complaint is that it can be a little too noisy when trying to catch up with friends.

With the Super Bowl only days away, football may be the sport of choice for many right now. But for those with a soft spot for the hard ball, you’ll be happy to know that 850 The Buzz has teamed up with ESPN Radio to bring 50+ Major League Baseball games to the Raleigh-Durham airwaves next season. Coverage starts March 30th and will include the All-Star Game and the World Series. The full schedule of covered games will be released in February.

Free Concert Tonight
Filed Under Entertainment | Leave a Comment
If you’re in the mood to start your weekend a little early, head out to the Mission Valley parking lot from 6:30-11:30 tonight for a free concert. Performing bands include: Inflowential, ZEGG, Dave Matthews Tribute Band and The Dickens Band.
Big Boss Brewing will be on-hand with $3 draft beers and I’m sure Ruckus will have some ridiculously large pizza slices available.
If you haven’t been to a free Mission Valley concert, I recommend it. It has a wonderful local flavor and they occasionally attract some pretty big names. I’ve seen Bare Naked Ladies and DMX there, and I’m sure there have been many others.

ESPNU has picked up several NCSU games over the past few years that local fans haven’t been able to watch outside of a few local sports bars with satellite access. You can find it on channel 140 locally. Read more

Meet me at The Mill
Filed Under Food and Beverage, Entertainment | 5 Comments
Whether it’s the overly smoke-filled bar, the dining room that can be eerily quiet and feels like my grandmothers house (20 years ago), or the somewhat uncomfortable iron chairs on the patio - I love to eat and drink at Edwards Mill Bar and Grill. Read more
