Sign of the Local Housing Market?
Filed Under Other | 6 Comments
A) A tear down and rebuild, minus the tear down
B) A bad joke on your neighbor
C) An indication of the local housing market
D) A Craigslist scam
Either way, I wish I could take them up on it. Now if someone was just giving away a flatbed and a big-ass crane.

IndyWeek Facelift

The Independent has revamped their website.
Overall, I really like it. It’s bold, the advertisements are fairly unobtrusive and it gives user comments center stage. Nice work, Indy.

Gobble, Gobble

If you tell someone what you wish for before blowing out your birthday candles, it’s said that won’t come true. Thanksgiving is a time of reflection, though. A time to look back at things which have already taken place–the events that have transpired and the many blessings we’ve hopefully all experienced. If you’re so inclined, I invite you to share what you’re thankful for with our readers and enjoy the feeling of spreading some holiday joy.
Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!

Get ‘Em While They’re Hot

Among the many wonderful things the internet provides, perhaps my favorite is the ability to have (or borrow) and idea one day, and then turn it into a reality the next. That said, get your OVAL stickers while they’re hot…

Support Your “Other” Local Media

Since launching RFP, I’ve tried to completely immerse myself in all of the Raleigh news sources I can find. Luckily, this isn’t too difficult in today’s online world, were hyperlinks abound and search engines know more about us than our own mothers. Without a doubt, some of my favorite finds have been local writers like myself who have taken it on themselves to publish their view of Raleigh. In doing so, they’ve started some excellent conversations and helped to fuel a wonderful channel of small-scale online publishing.
Hopefully you’ll find one or two in this list that you haven’t visited before, and if I’ve missed any - which I’m sure I have, please add them to the list. Read more

Top 10 Ways to Beat the Raleigh Heat
Filed Under Top 10, Other | 4 Comments
Temperatures in Raleigh continue to rise, but that doesn’t mean that you have to suffer. Below we offer a few serious, and a few tongue-in-cheek suggestions to help you battle the triple digit heat:
- Fishbowl margaritas from El Rodeo
- Slip-n-slide across the Meredith campus lawn
- Stand shoulder to shoulder with someone in any Raleigh public pool
- Pop open a fire hydrant on (insert your street name here)
- Befriend your annoying co-worker from Cary – join them in moving back to wherever it is they came from ;)
- Lock yourself in the meat freezer at the Angus Barn
- Lay beneath the peeing statue in the Rose Garden
- Play golf at RGA with only one ball – aim only for the water hazards
- Hijack one of Raleigh’s many annoying Ice Cream trucks, eat your fill, and then run it into Lake Johnson
- Help us finish off the list with some of your own ideas…

Missing Child in Cary
Filed Under Other | 2 Comments
Raleigh Free Press is normally a light-hearted read, but the way I see it any attention we can help draw to this situation: “The Highway Patrol has issued an Amber Alert for a missing 18-month-old Cary boy last seen Monday afternoon with his mother in Cabarrus County” can only help.
