Adieu
Filed Under RFP Site News | 9 Comments
The lack of writing on this wall has likely served as the writing on the wall for this site, but for the sake of closure, I’m officially done writing on the Free Press — at least for the near future.
It’s been a blast. I appreciate the support of everyone who dropped by and particularly those who visited regularly and joined the conversation with your comments. Also, thanks to J. Chavis, C. Sherwood and W.R Davie for their stories and contributions.
I have no intention to take the site down, so if you scan the headlines on our News Feeds page, they’ll stay up. All of the old posts will stay as well.
Cheers!

N&O Mention
Filed Under Local Sites, RFP Site News | Leave a Comment
The Free Press got a little ink in this Sunday’s edition of the N&O. If anyone is visiting the site for the first time–welcome, and thanks for stopping by. You may want to peruse the Archives to catch up on some content of yore. We’ve been a little quiet of late.

Also, congrats to John Morris for his coverage. John runs the site Goodnight, Raleigh! and is very deserving of the attention. I hope it drives more visitors to his site and helps to fuel his efforts.

That was close

The site was down for several hours today. Perhaps the recent rains infiltrated the sites flux capacitor. Rest easy, all seems to be well now.

The only thing worse than not posting new content on the site is making excuses about it. I’m guilty on both counts. Sorry for the lack of new content lately. I hope to be back on the horse again soon after we move into our new house. For now, don’t miss the headlines. There are plenty of great stories coming across the wire.

That Post Sucked

In true democratic free press fashion, you can now rate each post on the site. Hover your mouse over the stars at the bottom of the story and select a rating of 1-5, 5 being the best. If a rating just won’t suffice, leave a comment or shoot us a note through the contact form. Just don’t judge me on grammar or I’m sure to get 1’s across the board.

Less Clicking = More Reading

I’ve updated the news feeds page to list the local headlines directly within site. Hopefully, this will make it easier to scan the local headlines over your morning cup of coffee.
I’ll keep the previous flash reader if anyone speaks up for it. Otherwise, I’ll remove it in a day or two to unclutter the space. Enjoy!

We’re proud to announce an exciting new addition to the Raleigh Free Press - the RFP Forums. As a freshly launched forum there isn’t a whole lot to see right now, but I hope that our readers will embrace it as a place to discuss the city and to converse with fellow city-of-oakers.

Hot Off the Raleigh Wire
Filed Under RFP Site News | 2 Comments
Following up on my previous post, I’ve added a new “widget” to the site that will let you scan the headlines of the great sites below and others that cover the Raleigh area. You can find the link in the main navigation bar (news feeds). This is just an experiment - so as always, let me know what you think.
(One small note, this isn’t meant to replace visits to these sites, but to help promote them. If any site owners wish to be removed, just let me know.)

Adventure out on your own

Along with trying to provide interesting content to the readers of Raleigh Free Press, this site is also a sandbox of sorts for different web projects. Along those lines, check out our new “Local Map Search“. Using Google maps and Google search as the backbone of the data, the map allows you to search for local businesses throughout Raleigh and to find some hidden gems of your own throughout our great city.
