Filed Under Sports | Leave a Comment
This Saturday, Nebraska transfer Harrison Beck will start for the Wolfpack against coach Tom O’ Brien’s former employer, Boston College. This is a huge game for the Pack, as they begin their ACC schedule and try to avoid an 0-2 start. Expect emotions to run high as the Wolfpack nation watches their new coach travel back to his old stomping grounds.
The game airs at 2:30 PM on ESPN2.

College Football Anyone? (Part 2 of 2)

Starting about a week after the final bowl game of each year, college football analysts and prognosticators already begin predicting the next season’s results. These predictions are in many cases just newspaper column/TV segment filler, as it is pretty ridiculous to try predicting the outcome of games that won’t be played for months. That said, I read/watch them with great anticipation, to see what the “experts” think my team will do next season. Being nothing more than an avid college football fan, here’s my attempt at how this season will go for the Wolfpack:
Sept. 1 vs. Central Florida WIN - O’Brien and Co. get win #1, but it will be closer than some might think
Sept. 8 @ Boston College - LOSS - The Eagles have too much experience for the Pack in their first road game
Sept. 15 vs. Wofford - WIN - Back home and cruising…
Sept. 22 vs. Clemson - WIN - In upset fashion, the “12th Man” home field advantage propels the Pack
Sept. 29 vs. Louisville - LOSS - The biggest non-conference home game since Ohio State - Louisville has too much offense Read more

Early August brings with it a number of things: kids go back to school, summer heat hits its peak and hurricane season begins. For college sports fans however, August means something else – the start of fall football practice for your favorite college football teams and the thoughts of tailgating, the Top 25, rivalries and bowl games. As a somewhat obsessed NC State Wolfpack alum (along with fellow RFP contributors), I think the time is right to take a look at what the ‘07 season has in store. In this 2 part kick-off special we will take a look at the season to come, from major changes in the coaching staff to key players and predictions for the 2007 schedule. Read more

Congratulations to NC State women’s basketball coach Kay Yow, who won the Jimmy V ESPY award for Perseverance last night.
Yow, like Jimmy V, has become a Raleigh icon for both her coaching achievements and battles with cancer. Over her 32 year career Yow has won 5 ACC championships, 4 ACC Tournament titles and is 1 of only 6 Division 1 head women’s basketball coaches to win 700 games. Beyond her success on the court, she is widely viewed as a role model and a source of inspiration.

Additionally, if you have 10 minutes to spare and want to be moved - Jimmy V’s 1993 acceptance speech is probably one of, if not the, best and most touching of all times.
